Adult Learner of the Year Awards 2010

Do you know an adult learner whose achievements will inspire others to return to learning?

The hunt is on in Neath Port Talbot to find the County's most inspiring adult learner.

The Adult Learner of the Year Awards are presented at a ceremony during Adult Learners' Week 15-22 May 2010.

Nominations are invited from employers, tutors, family, friends, etc. to put forward adults who have returned to learning and through their particular achievements, would inspire others to return to learning.

It could be that they have improved their lives and/or the lives of others, and gained a positive or life-changing experience.

The Neath Port Talbot Adult Learner of the Year Awards are organised by the Lifelong Learning Service within Neath Port Talbot C.B.C.

The Categories for nomination are as follows:

  • Distance Learner - for learning via the internet and other distance learning methods
  • Workplace Learner - for learning in and/or for the workplace
  • Further Education Learner - for learning within FE institutions
  • Community Learner - for learning within local authority adult learning services
  • Basic Skills Learner - for improving basic skills levels (literacy and numeracy)
  • Higher Education Learner - for learning within HE institutions
  • Vocational Learner - for learning on vocational courses
  • Young Adult Learner - for learners aged between 19-25
  • Senior Learner - for learners aged 60+.
  • Welsh Learner - for learning the Welsh language
  • Community Action Group - for groups of learners who have made an impact on themselves and/or their communities
  • Intergenerational and Family Learning Award - for learning within a family group and/or an intergenerational (i.e. unrelated) group

An overall winner is selected from all the Category winners.

The closing date for nominations is 26 February 2010. Further details are available from the Lifelong Learning Service on (01639) 898581.

The Awards will be presented at a high profile ceremony at Margam Orangery, Port Talbot on Thursday evening 20 May 2010.
