The World Wide Web is an amazing medium to explore, but it's easy to get lost in this electronic world. That's where your browser really helps as it comes loaded with all sorts of handy features. Fortunately, you can learn the basics in just a few minutes, and then take the time to explore the advanced functions at your leisure.

To get from one site to the next on the Web requires the use of a link. Technically called a Hyperlink, a link can be made of text or graphics and connects one page on the Web with another. How do you know if a word or graphic is a link or not? A text link will generally be in a different colour and sometimes underlined - but not always. A graphic link may change colour when you place your mouse cursor over it, but in both cases your mouse cursor will change from an arrow to a hand with a pointed finger when placed on a link. Then you just click on the link to view the linked Web page.

The most popular browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer. However there are many up and coming browsers with many more features and better security available. For example, the US Government and many security firms recommend Mozilla Firefox because of it's exceptional security. Other popular browsers include Mozilla , Opera and Apple Safari (for Apple Macintosh users).

The two browsers included in this tutorial are: Microsoft Internet Explorer (being the most popular) and Mozilla Firefox (being the most secure and feature complete).

All browsers share similar ways of navigating the Web. Along the top of your browser, you'll see a toolbar made up of different buttons. These buttons help you travel through the Web and help keep track of where you've been. First, lets take a look at each browser's toolbar.
