How to use them...

Both Internet Explorer (if you have Windows XP Service Pack 2) and Mozilla Firefox come with built in popup blockers. What is a popup blocker? A popup blocker is a piece of software that attempts to stop internet pages from displaying a window in front of your web browser. These windows are mostly but not always adverts, for instance many sites use popup windows to display large images.

It is a good idea to leave such a utility on, as it will save you from being annoyed while you are surfing the net, however you can allow certain websites that you specify to use popup windows whilst blocking popup windows from all other sites. For instructions on how to do this keep reading...

How do I Allow Certain Sites Through my Popup Blocker?

Internet Explorer (Windows XP Service Pack 2)

First of all, to check if you have Windows XP Service pack 2 installed (you wont need to do anything if it isnt installed or if you are not using Windows XP):

• Click the Start Menu
• Click "My Computer"
• Click the help menu and select "About Windows" from the menu that pops up.
• Where the new window says "Version 5.1 etc. if you have Service pack 2 installed it will say so at the end of the line

If you have Service pack 2 installed, follow the steps below to allow learning pool through your popup blocker:

• Open a copy of Internet Explorer
• Click the tools menu and hover over the "Popup Block menu item" a new menu will appear to the right of the text
• If from the new menu, the only option available is "Turn on Popup Blocker" you do not need to do anything, although you might want to turn it on and then follow the rest of these steps
• Click the "Popup Blocker Settings" menu item to bring up a settings box
• Type www.learningpool.org into the box labeled "Address of Web Site to Allow
• Click the Add button next to the box

Congratulations. You have successfully allowed popup windows on this site.

Mozilla Firefox

If you are using Mozilla Firefox (click here or here to find out more about Firefox). follow the steps below to allow Learning Pool to open popup windows:

• Click the tools menu at the top of the browser, and click the options menu item to bring up the options dialog box.
• Click the Web Features icon at the left of the window.
• Click the top-most instance of the "Allowed Sites" button (the one that is inline with the text: "Block Popup Windows").
• Type www.learningpool.org into the box labeled "Address of Web Site"
• Click the Allow button and then the OK button at the bottom of the window.
• Click OK to any other windows open
